[SANGOSYU]

Coral has been crafted into accessories and ornaments since ancient times. Red pigment made by crushing coral into powder is hard to discolor, so it was used as a pigment for paintings and vermillion ink in China.

Coral gems come in three colors: white, pink, and red, and red ones are especially prized. The ones with strong redness were called “珊瑚朱・Sangosyu・Coral red”, and the lighter ones were called “鴇珊瑚・Tokisango・Toki coral”.
